Physical Description
Navy blue damask robe of the late Ching period (second half of 19th century) worked in fine floss silk in Chinese Knot stitch, Long and Short, encroaching Satin Stitch, block shading including the use of voiding to isolate the shapes and fine Couching. Typical flower and butterfly shapes are included. The cuffs are of cream silk with a charming decoration of figures and buildings worked in a fine twisted silk. Notice particularly the method of working the faces in floss silk. The robe fastens down the front with five metal buttons, and loops
